Fall Recruitment

Fall Recruitment

August 28th is the Council Wide School Night for Scouting. Please coordinate with your School(s), your Newspapers, your churches, that the 28th is the date to get registered for Scouting. The Council Membership Committee will be doing advertisements in some newspapers around the Council, as well as putting up billboards, and running PSA’s on a few radio stations. They can’t do something in every town but with a coordinated effort this should help your unit be successful in the recruitment process. Your goal is to have more youth in your pack by October 31st than you had on February 29th. Find a location and a time the best suits you’re Pack and get ready for the NEW CLASS of Scouts!!! If your unit can not set up your school night try to set your recruit up during that same week.
If you have a location, time and dates set already you can order your School Night Fliers today by emailing Ben Chiochon (bchiocho@bsamail.org) or calling the Winnebago Council Service Center .

Popcorn 2008

Popcorn 2008!!!

Council Wide Popcorn Kick- Offs will be held on August 19th at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center , University of Northern Iowa , 8201 Dakota Ave. Cedar Falls , IA 50614 and/or on August 20th at Winnebago Scout Reservation (WSR), both will start at 7pm.
There will 2 pick up locations this year one in Elgin , IA and one in New Hampton, IA- Locations TBA
These dates are absolute final dates; if you are late with an order you run the risk of waiting until the next order. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to collect the orders and turn them in plenty early. For Example: Take orders are due on October 24, make sure your Scouts have their orders turned in by the 20th or 21st.

  • September 4 – Show and Deliver Popcorn ORDERS Due
  • September 19/20- Show and Deliver Popcorn PICK-UP / Take-Orders Starts
  • October 24- Final Take Order Due
  • November 7/8- Final Popcorn Pick-up
  • December 5- Popcorn Money Due to Council

There will be Magazine Vouchers for sale again this year. The Magazine Voucher program has enabled us to pump up the prize program and it gives people a non-food choice to support Scouting! One way that worked real well last year was to do take-orders on the Magazine Vouchers and then order as many as you need, instead of having a bunch of vouchers you are liable for. The Units that did this system were very successful last year.

Remember Jamboree Popcorn is NOT ordered WITH your Unit Popcorn order.

Boji-Fest - August 22-24, 2008 at Okoboji Lakes

Attached is the updated registration form for Boji-Fest. The biggest change is that boys no longer must be 14 years old to participate in many of the activities. The only one that we are requesting they be 14 for is the Shotgun Merit Badge and that is per request of the MB counselor to help keep numbers reasonable. Please send this out to all of your units and remind them that early bird registrations are due JULY 1st. After that Adults Pay $10 more and youth pay $5 more.
